Submit your work to be considered for publication in our monthly magazine! Submissions are free, and every submission will be read by our entire panel of judges. We will send an email at the end of each month to every submitter informing them if their work has been accepted or not.
A first place winner will be chosen to recieve a $30 prize. Around 5 to 10 pieces will be published per issue.
Guidelines:
- Submissions should be in .docx or .pdf format.
- Feel free to submit as many works as you'd like.
- Your document should include a header on the first page which includes only the title of the piece; no author name or other identifying information is needed. Please use 11 or 12 pt font, a readable font of choice, and 1 inch margins.
- Absolutely no work created or edited by generative AI is allowed, and if we suspect your work is not fully written by a human, we will not accept it.
- Works may include pieces of or be written in a language other than English, but we ask that you provide a translation either in a footnote (if a small excerpt) or at the end of the document.
- If your work is published here, we do not restrict you from publishing it in another magazine or journal as well or take your publishing rights in any way. However, we recommend checking guidelines if you are doing submissions to multiple sites. If you need to recall your submission to Notepad Magazine (before we publish it), we will be disappointed to lose your work, but please email us and we will recall it for you.
- We chose writing for compelling and nuanced characters, interesting plot or setting, powerful themes, quality of writing, and writing style.
- Works from anyone ages up to and including 22 are accepted. We prefer high school or college students, but encourage all within the age limit to apply.
- We don't limit submissions to a certain genre or format, so anything ranging from fiction to nonfiction and from poem to book-length is accepted. If a book-length work is accepted, we may publish it in increments for our physical magazine while being published in full on our website.
